The Epsom & Ewell u3a Gertie's Gardeners group meets on the fourth Tuesday of each month to care for the Gertrude Longhurst Memorial Garden in the heart of Ewell Village. Members work together to weed, prune, plant and tidy this much-loved community garden, helping to keep it looking attractive throughout the year. No gardening expertise is needed—just a willingness to lend a hand, enjoy the fresh air and work alongside other friendly volunteers. It's a rewarding way to give something back to the local community, stay active and make new friends while helping maintain one of Ewell Village's special green spaces.

The picture shows the original setting for the garden with a raised bed flower clock. Obviously lots has changed over the years with the inevitable cut backs in local council budgets. The council still take care of the trees and mow the lawns but Gertie's gardeners come once a month to prune, sweep, plant bulbs and generally fuss over the plants for about an hour before we adjourn to one of the village coffee shops for coffee and chat.
