How will the group work? -
The idea is very simple.
We bring people together – you decide where you'd like to go.
There are probably lots of u3a members who enjoy watching sport and would happily attend more live events, but don't necessarily want to go on their own. This group is designed to help you find other members who feel exactly the same way.
First, register your interest - If the idea appeals to you, simply let us know that you'd like to be included.
Registering your interest doesn't commit you to attending anything.
It simply means we'll add you to the Sporting Events group and keep you informed about the first get-together and future ideas.

First - We'll get everyone together - Once we know how many members are interested, we'll arrange an informal get-together in Epsom.
This will be an opportunity to meet one another, discover which sports people enjoy and talk about events you might like to attend. We'll bring along plenty of suggestions to get the conversation started – and we'd love you to bring your own ideas too.
Next - check how many others who fancy the same event - Perhaps several members would like to watch tennis at Queen's. Others might fancy an international rugby match at Twickenham, an afternoon at Sandown, basketball at The O2 or something completely different. Once you've found other members who are interested in the same event, you can arrange between yourselves whether you'd like to go together.
You stay in control - This is not an organised trips group. Unless specifically stated otherwise, u3a won't be buying blocks of tickets, collecting payments or arranging coaches. Instead, the members interested in a particular event can decide together:
Which event they'd like to attend • Which tickets to buy • How much they'd like to spend • How they'd like to travel • Where and when to meet - That means you only take part in the events that appeal to you.
And members can suggest events too - We certainly don't expect to know about every sporting event that's happening – and that's where our members come in! If you spot something you think others might enjoy, tell the group. You may discover that several other members have been thinking, “I'd love to go to that – if only I had someone to go with.” And that's really what this group is all about.
No sporting expertise required! - You don't have to be a lifelong supporter or know all the rules. You might follow one particular sport, enjoy lots of different sports or simply fancy experiencing something new.
Meet people. Share ideas. Find something you fancy. Go together.
That's it!
Some ideas to get you started… So, where could we go? We're fortunate to live within easy reach of Surrey and London, giving us access to everything from local race meetings and county cricket to international rugby, world-class tennis and major sporting championships. We've put together a few possibilities for 2027 to get the conversation started. There's deliberately a mixture. Some are major international occasions, some are much closer to home, some are relatively inexpensive and a few might be special occasions that you've always fancied experiencing.
These are suggestions – not organised u3a outings. See something you fancy? The idea is to find other members who would like to go too and then make your arrangements together. And please don't be limited by our suggestions. If there's a match, meeting, tournament or sporting event you'd like to attend, tell us about it. There may be other members thinking exactly the same thing.
