Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift – Stage 3

Sunday 1 August 2027
Central London
18 km Team Time Trial – finishing on The Mall
Potentially free to watch from the roadside

How about seeing one of the world's greatest cycling events – without necessarily buying a ticket at all? For the first time, the Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift Grand Départ comes to Great Britain in 2027. After two stages through northern England, the world's leading women cyclists arrive in London on Sunday 1 August for something particularly special. London will host the first team time trial in the history of the Tour de France Femmes.

What is a team time trial? Instead of the whole field racing together, teams of seven riders will tackle the course separately, racing against the clock. Teamwork is crucial. Riders take turns at the front, shelter one another from the wind and try to maintain the highest possible speed while keeping the team together. It should make for a spectacular sight on the streets of London.

An 18 km course through central London The stage will cover approximately 18 kilometres through the heart of the capital, with the finish line on The Mall. The complete route has not yet been announced, but the organisers say riders will race past some of London's iconic landmarks. Once the full route is published, members could choose a suitable viewing point and arrange to travel there together.

And here's the really attractive bit… Unlike most of the events on our list, watching road cycling doesn't normally require a stadium ticket. Spectators can position themselves along suitable sections of the public route and watch the riders race past. That means this could potentially be one of our least expensive sporting outings – despite being a major international event featuring some of the world's best cyclists. We might just need somebody who knows London well enough to find us a good viewing spot!

Why might this be a good group outing? This could appeal even if you don't normally follow cycling. There's the spectacle of a major international sporting event taking over central London, the excitement of seeing the teams race against the clock and the opportunity simply to enjoy the atmosphere. And because the riders will set off at intervals, a team time trial should give spectators repeated opportunities to see the action rather than having the entire race flash past once in a few seconds.

A little piece of sporting history - The 2027 Grand Départ will be the first time the Tour de France Femmes has started in Great Britain.

The British stages are: Friday 30 July – Leeds to Manchester Saturday 31 July – Manchester to Sheffield Sunday 1 August – London Team Time Trial

London's stage will also be the first team time trial ever held in the Tour de France Femmes. So members attending wouldn't just be watching a bike race – they'd be witnessing a little piece of cycling history.

Interested? - Perhaps you're already a keen cycling fan. Perhaps you enjoy watching the Tour de France on television. Or perhaps your reaction is simply: “A major international sporting event in central London that I might be able to watch for free? Yes, I'd give that a go!” Find a few other interested members, choose a good spot once the route is announced, pack some comfortable shoes – and make a day of it.
