Tennis - Wimbledon & Queens

🎾 Women's Tennis at Queen's

HSBC Championships – WTA 500

Monday 7 – Sunday 13 June 2027
The Queen's Club, West Kensington, London
Standard 2027 tickets – coming soon

How about watching some of the world's leading women tennis players on the grass courts at one of Britain's most historic tennis clubs?

The Women's HSBC Championships return to The Queen's Club in June 2027 for a week of top-level international tennis.

Queen's has been hosting grass-court tennis since the nineteenth century and is one of the best-known venues in the sport. The women's tournament is a prestigious WTA 500 event, attracting leading international players as they prepare for Wimbledon.

Why might this be a good group outing?

If you've always fancied seeing world-class tennis live but obtaining Wimbledon tickets has seemed rather daunting, Queen's could be a very attractive alternative.

You still get the grass courts, international players and atmosphere of a major tennis tournament – but at a smaller venue.

And because the tournament runs for an entire week, members wouldn't necessarily have to choose the most sought-after final weekend. An earlier weekday could be an excellent opportunity to see plenty of tennis.

What sort of ticket could you choose?

Queen's normally offers different ways of experiencing the tournament.

An Andy Murray Arena ticket provides an allocated seat in the main arena as well as access to the other match and practice courts.

There are also Ground Admission tickets, giving access to the outside match and practice courts and unreserved seating on Court 1, but not the main Andy Murray Arena.

That means a group could decide whether they wanted the full main-court experience or a more informal day wandering between the outside courts.

Tickets

Standard tickets for the 2027 HSBC Championships are not yet on sale.

The Lawn Tennis Association recommends registering for its free LTA Advantage scheme to receive ticket updates and access to the priority window when tickets are released.

So this is an ideal event to put on our list now, find out who might be interested and keep an eye on ticket availability.

The venue

The tournament takes place at The Queen's Club in West Kensington, London.

As this is a daytime tournament, members could travel together, enjoy several hours of tennis and perhaps make a full day of it.

Interested?

Perhaps you watch Wimbledon every summer and have always thought:

β€œI'd love to see top-level tennis live.”

Or perhaps you've never been to a professional tennis tournament at all.

Either way, find a few other members who fancy it and Queen's could be the perfect place to start.

🎾 Men's Tennis at Queen's

HSBC Championships – ATP 500

Monday 14 – Sunday 20 June 2027
The Queen's Club, West Kensington, London
Standard 2027 tickets – coming soon

If watching world-class men's tennis on grass appeals to you, Queen's is one of the highlights of the British tennis calendar.

The Men's HSBC Championships take place at The Queen's Club during the week immediately following the women's tournament and shortly before Wimbledon.

This prestigious ATP 500 tournament traditionally attracts many of the world's leading players as they make the transition from clay to grass and prepare for Wimbledon.

Why might this be a good group outing?

For many tennis fans, Wimbledon is the ultimate experience – but getting tickets isn't always easy.

Queen's offers another opportunity to see leading international players competing on grass, at a historic and much more intimate tennis venue.

And with play spread across an entire week, members could choose a day that suits them rather than everyone having to attend on the same date.

A weekday earlier in the tournament could be particularly attractive, with plenty of matches taking place and the possibility of seeing several leading players during the course of the day.

What sort of ticket could you choose?

There are different ways to experience Queen's.

An Andy Murray Arena ticket provides an allocated seat in the tournament's main arena as well as access to the other match and practice courts.

Alternatively, Ground Admission gives access to the outside match and practice courts and unreserved seating on Court 1, but not the Andy Murray Arena.

So members could decide together whether they'd prefer reserved main-arena seats or a more informal day moving around the grounds and watching different matches.

Tickets

Standard tickets for the 2027 HSBC Championships are not yet on sale.

The LTA recommends joining its free LTA Advantage scheme to receive ticket updates and access to the Priority Window when sales open.

That makes this another good event to identify interested members now and then keep an eye on ticket information as it becomes available.

Interested?

Maybe you're an enthusiastic tennis follower who watches Queen's and Wimbledon every summer.

Or perhaps you've always thought:

β€œI'd love to see some of the world's best players in person.”

Find some other members who feel the same way and this could be your opportunity.

World-class tennis – and no Wimbledon ballot required!

🎾 Wimbledon – The Championships

The world's most famous tennis tournament

Monday 28 June – Sunday 11 July 2027
All England Lawn Tennis Club, Wimbledon

This one hardly needs an introduction!

The Championships at Wimbledon are one of the great events of the British sporting summer – and we're fortunate to have them taking place remarkably close to home.

For two weeks, the world's leading tennis players compete on Wimbledon's famous grass courts, from the early rounds right through to the singles finals on Centre Court.

But could a group of u3a members actually go?

Possibly – although Wimbledon works rather differently from most of the other events on our list.

The Wimbledon Public Ballot

One of the principal ways of obtaining advance tickets is through the Wimbledon Public Ballot.

The ballot is always heavily oversubscribed and successful applicants don't get to choose a particular day, court or seat – tickets are allocated through the ballot process.

Only one application per household is permitted.

Details of the Public Ballot for the 2027 Championships have not yet been announced. Anyone interested should create a myWimbledon account, opt in to ticket communications and watch for the announcement.

So this isn't an event where our group could simply buy a block of seats together.

But that doesn't necessarily rule it out.

How about The Queue?

Wimbledon is unusual among major sporting events because it still offers spectators the opportunity to buy tickets on the day through The Queue.

A limited number of tickets for Centre Court, No.1 Court and No.2 Court are made available each day, together with Grounds Passes.

A Grounds Pass provides access to the outside courts and The Hill, where the action from the main Show Courts is screened.

The Queue can involve a long wait and entry is never guaranteed, so this certainly wouldn't suit everybody.

But perhaps a few adventurous members might think:

β€œI've always wanted to experience Wimbledon – let's give it a go together!”

Standing in a queue is probably rather more enjoyable when you've got people to talk to!

And Wimbledon isn't far away

That's another reason this deserves a place on our list.

People travel from all over the world to attend The Championships, yet for us Wimbledon is relatively local.

Public transport is strongly recommended during the Championships. Southfields Underground station is around a 15-minute walk from the grounds, while Wimbledon station is approximately a 20-minute walk away.

There is also a Championships Park & Ride service from Morden Park.

Why might this be a good group idea?

Wimbledon demonstrates perfectly what this new group could achieve.

We can't guarantee tickets.

We can't guarantee that several members would receive ballot tickets for the same day.

And we certainly can't promise Centre Court!

But we can help members who have always wanted to experience Wimbledon find other people who feel the same way.

Perhaps some members apply for the ballot.

Perhaps a few decide to try The Queue together.

Or perhaps somebody who has been before can share their experience with members who haven't.

Interested?

Maybe Wimbledon has always been on your wish list.

Maybe you've watched it on television every summer for years but have never actually been.

If you've always thought:

β€œI'd love to go to Wimbledon one day…”

…this could be the year you find somebody to go with.
